2-Methylfuran is mainly used as a flavoring substance, with the potential for use in alternative fuels. It can also be used in the production of pentadiene, pentanediol, acetyl-propanol, ketones and 2-methyl-tetrahydrofuran, as well as Vitamin B1, chloroquine phosphate and primaquine phosphate. It is a good solvent for pyrethroid agro-chemicals, food essences and flavors, and may be applied in pesticides.
