Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid (EDTA) other names N,N-Ethane-1,2-diylbis[N-(carboxymethyl)glycine], Diaminoethane-tetraacetic acid, Ethylenedinitrilo-tetraacetic acid; is a colorless, water-soluble solid. It is a chelating agent used to remove multivalent cations from solution as chelates, and used in biochemical research to remove Mg2+, Fe2+, among other elements,from reactions affected by such ions.

other metals; used as an anticoagulant forpreserving blood specimens. Also used medicinally. EDTA salts are used as a sequestering agent to improve their stability in air in shampoos, cleaners, and other personal care products.
